March 2024 has been a very busy time for the choir, and the culmination of several months preparation. Our first performance was in north Wales, Colwyn Bay where we gave a concert in aid of Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital to a very enthusiastic audience who have asked us back next year after successfully raising over £2000. We hope to visit again in 2025!
Our second engagement was at Liverpool’s St Georges Hall for an opera gala evening with Orchestra Della Arte. Jason, our MD was tasked with bringing the chorus together for the evening and he combined Mersey Wave with his other choir, Runcorn Community Choir to create a chorus of 83 on the day! Operatic choruses are something we have only lightly touched on over the 12 years we have been together as a choir, but we all rose to the occasion and gave a spectacular rendition of some Verdi and Puccini. The soloists Heather Buckmaster – Soprano, and Joseph Buckmaster – Tenor, were spectacular as was the fantastic orchestra. The whole evening was conducted by Edward Peak. Once again we have been invited for a repeat performance at another venue later this year so keep an eye out for this, if you missed this superb evening of music!
We have a break from rehearsals now for 1 week and return on the 27th March where we look to welcome some new members. If you are interested in joining this great choir, perhaps you are an experienced singer, or have never done it before but you fancy a challenge and to meet some great like-minded people get in touch!
