On Friday 18th July 2014 the Mersey Wave Summer ‘Proms and Songs’ Concert 2014 took place at St Ambrose Church Speke, Liverpool. The concert was attended by over 500 people, and was the 5th concert to be organised by Mersey Wave Music since the inception of the organisation in July 2013.
The evening marked the centenary of the First World War through music, images and poetry from the era and included performances by Mersey Wave Choir, Mersey Wave Young Singers, Owen Roberts (piano) Jason Ellis (piano/musical director) and Kathryn Rudge (mezzo-soprano). The concert concluded with everyone on their feet for a rousing ‘Last Night of the Proms’ flag waving finale including ‘Land of Hope and Glory!’
During the evening funds were raised for the Speke Catholic Youth, through the sale of interval refreshments and a raffle and tombola with the generous help of parish priest Father Ed, the parishioners of St Ambrose and St Christophers and Carol Rimmer. Mersey Wave Music are delighted to have supported local charity ‘Liverpool Pals Memorial Fund’ through a collection which raised £242.12, with thanks to chairman Bill Sargent for his recitation of poetry from the trenches and Jimmy Ross on behalf of the British Legion who helped to raise awareness about our local First World War heroes through wonderful memorabilia displays.
Thank you to all of the volunteers and friends of Mersey Wave Music who made the evening one we will never forget!
The next concert with the Mersey Wave Choir takes place at ESLA Garston on …October 2014.
